In 1978, Gibson produced a series of 'control explanation' sheets, detailing the precise operation of instruments with less-intuitive controls to potential buyers - and presumably existing owners without the owners manual. Despite having just one pickup, one volume and one tone control, operation of the Les Paul Signature bass would not be immediately obvious, having two output jacks and a three-way level switch. Like the Les Paul Triumph, this bass could operate in standard or low impedance modes (depending on which jack was selected) for either live or studio use.
By the time of publication, the Les Paul Signature was on it's way to deletion; the last semi-acoustic bass produced by Gibson under the ownership of Norlin, being superceded by active solid bodies like the RD Artist and Victory Artist. It was not included in the 1978 Gibson catalog or 1978 price lists.
