Victory bass circuit photographs and description
Electrical components on the Gibson Victory Standard are accessible by removing the pickguard. The wiring loom of the single-pickup Victory Standard contains one 300KΩ volume control (part 70-031) and one 100KΩ tone control (part 70-033) - these are both shorter shaft potentiometers, suitable for scratchplate mounting - also used on later versions of the Grabber and G-3 basses. Gibson had some stocks of these pots, and they are regularly 3 or 4 years older than the bass they are fitted to.
The Victory humbucker has three coated wires (red, black, translucent white) and a ground, all of which connect to a two-way switch, offering coils-in-series and coils-in-parallel wiring.
See also the Victory Standard circuit schematic, with simplified wiring diagram.
1981 Gibson Victory Standard wiring and circuitry - from one of the earliest examples here. Serial number dates to 17/6/1981, pots are dated 1978. Capacitor is 0.1µF.
This scratchplate comes from a bass produced some four months later than the example above, late October 1981, but pots date to 1977 and 1979. The earth wire (black) has most likely been moved from the tone pot to the jack. Note also the blue capacitor, a different style to the one used above, but still the same value.

When I bought this some years ago, it was advertised as being manufactured in 1981 and with a special paintjob. The special paint job is a refinish, and I'm pretty sure they painted the back of the neck as I've never seen another like it. Looks quite nice but has some chips and knocks but overall, it's a very cool 43 year old bass. Plays great. sound great but I'll only be selling it to somebody that comes and plays it in person ... more
